[PDE & Applications seminar] Laura Scarabosio: Shape uncertainties: a case study for uncertainty quantification
16 November 2023 16:00 till 17:00 - Location: Hall G 36.HB.00.230 EEMCS | Add to my calendar
Shape uncertainties arise in a variety of applications. Examples are manufacturing defects in the fabrication of mechanical or electrical components, or biological variations within different subjects. In this talk, I will discuss numerical methods to quantify shape uncertainties in PDE-based models of strongly elliptic type, and I will use this as a running case to showcase different computational challenges and possible solutions. In particular, I will present methods for the forward propagation of uncertainty which, exploiting the problem structure encoded in the relationship between the uncertain parameters and the quantity of interest, overcome the high dimensionality of the parameter space, and multilevel techniques to speed-up computations. If time will allow, I will also discuss the inverse problem setting.
