Climate change is the biggest challenge of our generation and the transition to a low-carbon energy system is fundamental in mitigating climate change. Enabling electric devices to play an active part in the electricity system is essential in this energy transition. Sympower provides efficient ways of balancing supply and demand in the electricity system, enabling electric devices to play a more active role. This is achieved by the creation of a smart, clean, and sustainable energy platform. Sympower's platform contains different kinds of services we offer for balancing the electricity grid. These balancing services make use of various types and large amounts of data collected by the platform. The data are used for all kinds of purposes, including forecasting and optimization. For example, we use the data to forecast electricity prices and the amount of power an electric device will have available for the balancing process tomorrow. In this presentation, we give an overview of Sympower's platform and the balancing services on it. We look at the processing of the data on the platform, its analysis using data science and machine learning techniques, insights gathered from the data, and how these insights improve the balancing process.
