MSc - thesis of Marco Postma
A doubly fed induction machine (DFIM) has previously been identified as a means to simultaneously propel and charge a train. Such a configuration allows fast acceleration, independent of the slipperiness of the tracks, is suited for use in a low-pressure atmosphere, and does not need expensive powered track for much of the track length. The thesis explores the usage conditions of the DFIM, explores possible controllers, and provides simulations and laboratory tests with a rotary DFIM.
