Trolleybuses are buses than run on power from overhead wires, like trams do. Currently, the integration of PV systems in trolleybus grids has a low potential as the gaps in the bus schedule and the intermittent behavior of the PV power leave a lot of excess PV energy unused. Possible solutions to this problem are either the storage of this excess energy in on-board energy storage systems (OESS) or stationary energy storage systems (SESS).
