The entertainment sector is one of the fastest growing industries with a strong presence in the Netherlands. Yet, games have taken large steps outside the entertainment field and appear in many different contexts, such as education and medicine.
Challenges that we aim to address range from developing rendering techniques, tools for designing captivating virtual worlds (objects and environments, but also NPC behaviours and story plots), as well as interaction techniques (e.g., AR/VR, touch screens) and gameplay-adaptation methods (e.g., difficulty, game style). We also develop new ways of content generation. For example, by combining differing concepts, such as writing a story and generating the world the story plays in, the workflow of game generation can be fundamentally changed.
