African Water Corridor Scholarship, Faculty of CEG, TU Delft.
Starting in 2025-2026, the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences (CEG) will offer the African Water Corridor Scholarship for two excellent Sub-Saharan Africa students in the Master programme Environmental Engineering, track Water Resources Engineering.
TU Delft is proud to establish the African Water Corridor Scholarship for talented and ambitious MSc students from Sub-Saharan Africa. We are especially encouraging students from Ghana, Kenya and Tanzania to apply for this opportunity.
The two-year master scholarship will be established at the TU Delft Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences (CEG). In the master programme Environmental Engineering you learn how to cope with shortage and abundance of resources such as water and waste, the effects of climate change on liveability in cities, air pollution and the depletion of natural resources, such as groundwater. These challenges are of utmost relevance in a world under change that is experiencing population growth and demanding more clean resources than ever. As an Environmental Engineer you will study these challenges and develop engineering solutions in the fields of air quality, hydrology and water resources management, water technology and urban water infrastructure, fields in which TU Delft has a long-standing history. The scholarship comprises full tuition fees for this 2-year TU Delft CEG Master programme based on the statutory fee or institutional rate and contribution for the living expenses.
The scholarship is part of the TU Delft | Global Initiative Scholarship Fund: for many talented students in low- and middle-income countries, it is often not feasible to study at a world-class university of technology. TU Delft and Delft University Fund have therefore established the Delft Global Scholarship Fund. Thanks to the support of private donors we can enable exceptionally talented and motivated students from Sub-Saharan Africa to obtain an engineering degree at TU Delft. The grants contribute to strengthening the partnerships we have with African knowledge institutions and promote future leadership focused on inclusive, sustainable global development. The UN Sustainable Development Goals are a guiding principle for TU Delft.

Stories of Experts, TU Delft Staff and Students:
Henk Ovink who is initiator of and donor to the scholarship says “In my close to 9 years as special envoy for Water, I have learnt the importance of water governance; the formal and institutional arrangements, and the informal and innovative collaborative partnerships, the mission driven journeys. Water, connected to everything we value and aim for, is the driver for inclusive processes and integrated approaches. Understanding both the connective capacity of water with all of us, everywhere as well as the need to develop and implement new institutional arrangements and informal approaches, is key for equitable water security.”
Aukje Hassoldt, Dean of the Faculty: “I strongly believe that for solving our global water challenges, as for all global challenges with a strong technical component, technical knowledge alone is not sufficient. Understanding the societal and political aspects, knowing the parties involved and their interests, and knowing how to manage the process is just as important as understanding the technology. All are equally necessary to be able to analyse and take steps towards solving the problems. This is exactly what we want to teach our students.
Chatarina Petra Salim is a student of TU Delft's Technology, Policy and Management faculty. Born in Indonesia, she started at TU Delft in 2022 as a recipient of the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management Scholarship, which allowed her to pursue her master’s studies. While completing her master's degree in Management of Technology, she will also work as a teaching assistant at the Technology, Policy and Management faculty. In addition, she will work as an intern at TNO for her graduate project. Upon graduating from the master's program, Chatarina is planning to pursue her study for a PhD in multi-actor systems within the TPM faculty.
Elie Christian Azeufack is an alumnus of TU Delft's Technology, Policy and Management faculty. Born in Cameroon, Elie started at TU Delft in 2020 as a recipient of the Justus and Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarship, which allowed him to pursue his master’s studies.
