Track Programme
The programme offers many exciting courses, in a well-structured way. Because of that, you will be able to form a so-called Individual Exam Programme that fits your personal interests, ambitions and learning objectives best.
Note that the general structure, as shown below, is identical for all tracks in Electrical Engineering. Course loads are expressed in EC, with 1 EC indicating nominally 28 hours of active study, including class and self-study.

| Compulsory courses | 2 Courses, total 6 EC. | Broad academic and engineering skills, including communication, systems engineering and ethics. |
| Common Core | Select 3 courses from a total of 7. Total 15 EC. | Common to all EE tracks. Aim to strenghten broader fundamental Electrical Engineering skills and knowledge and a solid overall base that extends the scope of your track |
| Track Core | Select 3 courses from a total of 11. Total 15 EC. | These are the more general and fundamental WiCoS courses. Aim to provide a general foundation for specialization courses. |
| Specialization courses | At least 24 EC. | In consultation with the MSc coordinator or your (tentative) thesis supervisor, you can take any EE course (or even any other EEMCS master course) in your specialization. |
| Free electives | At most 15 EC can count toward your IEP | Can be almost any academic course at MSc level. Can be used for broadening, learning specific skills or even for further specialization. Some restrictions apply, for example for language courses. |
| Thesis project | 45 EC. | Individual academic research or design oriented project, under guidance/supervision of a professor of the faculty. Succesful completion of your courses and this project is proof that you have aquired the academic competences of a Master of Science |

The programme uses innovative educational methods, is taught in English, and requires a strong commitment from you. You’ll be challenged to deal with a workload of more than 40 hours per week. To support you in this, there is individual guidance around by the master coordinator and, if needed, the student counsellor.
WiCoS Profiles
Your individual exam program (IEP) should be agreed upon with your thesis professor (supervisor). Naturally, the supervisor would advise you to take certain courses so that you are better prepared for a thesis project in his/her research direction. In order to help you to understand how certain courses work together for certain research directions and guide you in making the relevant choices, we offer the concept of ‘profile’. Profiles are consistent sets of courses for a number of relevant specialization directions.
Profiles typically specify a number of highly recommended courses that more or less define the profile, and a larger number of additionally relevant courses. You are not required to take all these courses; it is just a shortlist of potentially relevant courses. Actually, you really have the opportunity to fill in your own IEP in a broader way than just focused on a specific profile. Typically, you will discuss your IEP at an early stage with your (tentative) thesis supervisor and negotiate your wishes.
