IETF/IRTF Applied Networking Research Prize for Cybersecurity paper
A recent paper co-authored by Professor Georgios Smaragdakis and colleagues from DE-CIX Internet Exchange, Max Planck Institute for Informatics, and the Brandenburg University of Technology receives the joint Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF) Applied Networking Research Prize.

Professor Smaragdakis was interviewed about hacked solar panels
In April 2021, Jelle Ursem, a Dutch hacker, found out that the login details of a power inventor manufacturer were only in plain text! A power inventor is a power electronic device that converges direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) and is a critical part of solar panel installations. An investigation found that more than 40k power inventors of this manufacturer are already installed in the Netherlands.

The cybersecurity group has been granted a 3-year project
The cybersecurity group @ EEMCS has been granted a 3-year project by Horizon Europe w.r.t. “World leading data and computing technologies”. The project is called TANGO, aiming to establish a safer cross-sector data sharing, in a citizen-centric, secure and trustworthy manner.

On the 4th of July Dr. Els de Busser, an expert on Digital Justice will give a talk: Securing Fundamental Rights and Freedoms in a Digital Context The digitalization of many aspects of society has a profound impact on governance, on processes, and on decision-making. The area of justice – traditionally laid down in old conventions, laws, norms and paper files – is particularly affected. In fact, in the past years we have redefined and still are redefining the way that justice is delivered and is received. The growing field of Digital Justice zooms in on the security-related effects of digitalization on the two larger components of justice: the institutions and infrastructures of the justice system on the one hand and the content or the substantive aspects of justice including human rights, the rule of law and democracy on the other hand.
