The Aircraft Hall contains a diverse collection of labs and equipment for experimental research and education. Related techniques are combined into a Lab or Area and set up as a shared facility. The Aircraft Hall was set up in 1967 as a collection of aircraft and construction parts for educational purposes. With that background, the change to experimental research into materials and constructions was a logical development. And still, most of the labs and facilities are related to this.
In the current shape the materials/structures research has labs for chemical polymer development, processing of polymers into composites, mechanical and non-destructive testing and physical characterization. The Aircraft Hall also offers space for the Cyberzoo for testing drones and the Scaled Aircraft Lab for alternative aircraft shapes. The latest developments are the polymer tapeline-machine, a lab for bio-based material research and the Delft Planetary Lab for simulation of planetary conditions. The two student team DARE and AeroDelft build on innovative and challenging projects with the Aircraft Hall as their home. Most of these labs will have technical support available for supervision of safety, user instructions, lab-management and maintenance. As a TU Delft researcher it is possible to use these facilities for your research.
