DEWIS Symposium

At this year’s DEWIS Webinar Symposium 2020 we welcomed Pascale Fung, Professor at the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering and Department of Computer Science & Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (HKUST), and Hanneke Takkenberg, Professor of Clinical Decision Making in Cardio-Thoracic Interventions at the department of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery at Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam.

Professor Fung also is a visiting professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. She is an elected Fellow of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) for her “significant contributions towards statistical NLP, comparable corpora, and building intelligent systems that can understand and empathize with humans”. She is an Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) for her “contributions to human-machine interactions”, and an elected Fellow of the International Speech Communication Association for “fundamental contributions to the interdisciplinary area of spoken language human-machine interactions”.  More information about Professor Fung can be found here.

Professor Takkenberg is a national and international scientific leader in the field of heart valve disease. Her research focuses on determinants of prognosis after heart valve interventions and optimization of heart valve disease treatment decision making by taking into account clinical, patient and societal perspective. She is past president of the Heart Valve Society, and co-founder and co-chair of the AVIATOR registry.  She founded the Erasmus MC academic women's network VENA in 2007, was chair of the Erasmus University FAME board (2014-2018), and chairs the Dutch network of women professors (LNVH; 2018-2021).
