Funding for Cardiac patch for flexible ultrasound imaging
Martin Verweij received funding from NWO for his project: "Cardiac patch for flexible ultrasound imaging". The project is in collaboration with ErasmusMC Rotterdam. Six application-oriented research projects received funding through the Open Technology Programme from the NWO Domain Applied and Engineering Sciences.

The Netherlands counts 1.7 million patients with cardiac or vascular diseases. Timely detection and prediction of disease progression based on long-term monitoring will enable the deployment of high-quality, sustainable care and timely and effective therapeutic adjustments. However, direct on-body imaging of cardiac function using current equipment suitable for long-term monitoring is not possible. Here, we will develop new flexible ultrasound transducer arrays and the algorithms required to assess cardiac health by intensive yet unobtrusive cardiac monitoring. The performance of the developed system will be tested in small clinical pilot studies.
