Installation of coffee machines and MAAS Coffee Stations
As of 1 January 1 2024, the new contract with MAAS for coffee and vending machines has started. Between 4 December and 24 January a total of 254 coffee machines were installed. In the coming months, the last coffee machines will be replaced and the D.E. Coffee Kitchen machines will be replaced with MAAS Coffee Stations. Read below what the replacement of the coffee machines means in terms of sustainability.
MAAS Coffee Stations
Starting this spring, 10 Coffee Stations form MAAS will be installed on campus. These machines offer high-quality coffee, a wide range, and serve as a meeting point. The planning about the MAAS Coffee Stations will follow.
Contribution to sustainability goals
TU Delft has the ambition to operate carbon neutral, climate adaptive and circular by 2030, wit contribution to the quality of life and biodiversity. With this renewed partnerschip, we are taking a step towards achieving this ambition. Here are some hightlights:
- The new coffee blend in the vending machines is Puro Compañero FTO and is Fairtrade and organic certified.
- Elimination of disposable cups and the choice of oat milk result in a 71.5% carbon reduction compared to the old machines.
- There are no more disposable cups due to the single-use plastic directive. As a result, about 6 million disposable cups were saved last academic year. Read here more information about the SUP directive.
- For every liter of water used from the coffee machine, 1 liter of clean drinking water is donated to the Made Blue foundation.
- The coffee machines are 94.4% (staff machines) and 97.3% (student machines) circular. The materials used in the machines (plastic, metals, etc.) can be reused when the machine is retired.
