Last weekend, the North-Western European Regional Contest (NWERC) took place at TU Delft. This is a programming contest where 80 teams with participants from all over north-western Europe had to programme algorithms for a dozen different mathematical problems. TU Delft's team ‘Segfault go BRRRR’ came second and thus qualified for the global algorithmic programming contest, the ICPC World Finals.

The NWERC event took place from Friday 22 to Sunday, November 24, 2024. NWERC is the preliminary round for the algorithmic programming world finals, and there were about 80 teams with participants from all over northwestern Europe. These teams had already won at their local contest (in Delft, the Delft Algorithm Programming Contest), and national contest (for Delft, the Benelux Algorithm Programming Contest). In the end, one team from TU Delft, called ‘Segfault go BRRRR’ won the second prize and thus qualified for the ICPC World Finals in 2025.

The NWERC event is organised by the CHipCie. This is a committee of the study association Christiaan Huygens (CH), consisting of 15 people. They collaborated with a team of more than 30 volunteers to plan the organization, catering, and activities of the event.

Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science, Lucas van Vliet, visited both on Saturday and Sunday morning, to give a short speech at the opening and to watch the competition on Sunday.

Congratulations ‘Segfault go BRRRR’ and good luck in the finals!
