Delft AI Lab PhDs strengthening AI collaboration connections abroad
At the end of 2022, the first call for the new North America Travel Grant for AI PhD candidates was opened. The Delft University Fund has made this new travel grant possible thanks to a donation from alumnus Felix Herrmann. Now, the first three grants have been awarded to Mubariz Zaffar (3DUU Lab), Mirko Baglioni (AI*MAN Lab), and Yiru Jiao (CityAI Lab).
This travel subsidy grant has been set up for TU Delft AI Lab PhD candidates to offer them the opportunity for a temporary stay at a university abroad. The TU Delft AI Labs & Talent programme is based the premise of building bridges, and such visits abroad are an integral part to building and maintaining bridges for TU Delft and its academic community. In particular, this grant is aimed at a visit for TU Delft AI Lab PhDs to a university in the United States of America or Canada.
The 24 TU Delft AI Labs are committed to education, research and innovation in AI, data and digitalisation. These labs embody the bridge between research 'in' and 'with' AI, data and digitalisation. They foster cross-fertilization between talent and expertise, working to increase the impact of AI in the fields of applied sciences, design techniques and society. Establishing this grant means a tremendous extra opportunity for the personal development of AI PhD candidates, and will offer a great stepping stone to strengthen their contribution to the development of new/emerging, interdisciplinary fields at the intersection of AI and its application(s). Thanks to the North America Travel Grant for AI PhD candidates three Delft AI Lab PhD candidates will be strengthening collaborations & connections abroad.
Congratulations to Mubariz Zaffar (3DUU Lab), Mirko Baglioni (AI*MAN Lab), and Yiru Jiao (CityAI Lab) who will be traveling later in 2023 to respectively Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, USA) University of Texas (Austin, USA), and Vanderbilt University (Nashville, USA)
