Sustainable caterer Appèl starts at TU Delft
As of Monday 17 July caterer Appèl started as TU Delft’s new caterer. From the start of the academic year on 4 September, the university will offer a sustainable, international, and broad vegetarian range at 23 different locations on campus. This brings TU Delft a step closer to its sustainability ambition.
TU Delft’s goal is to operate completely sustainably by 2030. All activities on and from the campus will then be carbon neutral, circular and climate adaptive, and will take biodiversity and the quality of life into account. Appèl's offer fits within the guidelines of the science-based ‘EAT-Lancet’ menu. This focuses on a healthy diet within a sustainable food system. In this diet, the focus is on healthy, varied, local and seasonal organic food and drinks.
Tasting in Living Labs
TU Delft is opening its campus to research and innovation, within living labs. Caterer Appèl joins the living lab idea and launches various restaurant and food concepts in the Aula and Echo. Here, the caterer develops and experiments with new products. When a concept is successful, the concept is deployed at the other catering outlets. This will keep the catering on campus in line with the university's sustainability ambitions.
What will change?
The catering locations on campus will remain, only the offerings will change. Five new concepts will create a 'Foodcity' on the TU Delft Campus:
-
Foodture: a completely plant-based and local offer.
-
Goodish: healthy fast food with a quick stop for your healthy meal, including a sandwich and salad.
-
Lemons & Beans: coffee and juice bar, with a sandwich or wrap. All to go.
-
Coffee & Co: Co-creation coffee bar with plenty of refreshments.
-
Powerkitchen: an open kitchen serving breakfast, snacks and lunch.
