Tech for Energy

In 2022, Delft University Fund together with donors of the Tech for Energy campaign has supported the university's ambition to play a pioneering role in the field of energy transition. Day in day out, Delft scientists are working on projects that speed up this process.

During the Taste of Excellence dinner, organised for close relations of TU Delft and the University Fund, we revealed the amount raised in the campaign. Prof John Schmitz had the honour to receive the cheque stating the amount of €227,868. The money will benefit three projects: the 24/7 Energy Lab at the Green Village, the Floating Renewables Lab and the Control Room of the Future.

More than a sum of money

The Tech for Energy campaign has been successfully completed. In addition to the received donations, the campaign created great exposure for TU Delft research on energy transition. The campaign also deliverd new connections between scientists and alumni, and new contacts with a number of relevant companies and institutional funds.

24/7 Energie Lab

With Tech for Energy we support the 24/7 Energy Lab, a field lab researching a local carbon-free energy system for the built environment and the Floating Renewables Lab, aimed at designing, developing and implementing floating energy generating installations at sea on a large scale. The Control Room of the Future is the third lab in this campaign.

Floating Renewables Lab

There is plenty of space at sea for generating renewable energy. Problem is that most areas are deeper than 60 meters, too deep for installing fixed installations. Floating wind turbines, solar panels and other energy generators offer the solution. Because the technology needed to do so on a large scale is still in its infancy, Dr. Ir. Axelle Viré in Delft has initiated the Floating Renewables Lab. Will you join us?

Control Room of the Future

The energy transition in the Netherlands hinges on adapting our electricity grid. The Control Room of the Future is made up of digital copies of the Dutch electricity grid and can be used for real-time testing and, for example, rewinding forward in time. In this way, the complex energy system can soon be managed and supply and demand can be accurately matched with smart communication.
