TU Delft maintains its 15th position in global QS Subject ranking
Just like last year, the World University Rankings by Subjects 2021, published on 3 March, places TU Delft in a respectable 15th position in the broad category Engineering & Technology. Ten disciplines, including Architecture, Civil & Structural Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering and Environmental Sciences, are ranked in the global top 20.
New entries
TU Delft is ranked for the first time this year in a number of subjects: Art & Design, Statistics & Operational Research, Biological Sciences and Medicine. Art & Design stands out in this list with a fine 11th position.
Going up
As every year, there are subjects that rise or fall (slightly). Notable this year are three disciplines that managed to secure a place in the top 50: Geophysics and Earth & Marine Sciences, both at position 41, and Geology at position 43. Last year, these subjects were ranked between 51 and 100.
QS Subject Rankings
The QS-ranking is one of the leading university rankings in the world. Every ranking has different characteristics and uses a slightly different composition of indicators. In addition to the yearly World University Ranking, QS issues separate Subject Rankings. The subject rankings are compiled based on the following indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, citation per paper and the H-index. The weighting varies per subject area. These rankings are especially important for universities in attracting international talent, because they are widely consulted by international students and scientists.
