Delphi Consortium welcomes new sponsor in field of energy transition
The Delphi Consortium is a collaboration between Applied Sciences and Civil Engineering & Geosciences and is sponsored by ~25 companies, traditionally from the oil & gas industry. Because of the increasing awareness of the negative impact of fossil fuels on the environment, it was decided to shift the focus to applications in the sustainable geo-energy sector. In January Delphi welcomed Fugro as a new sponsor. Fugro's interest is in near-surface characterization for constructions (offshore wind turbines).
The Delphi consortium – for which Eric Verschuur is scientific director - is a collaboration between the departments Imaging Physics (Applied Sciences) and Geoscience & Engineering (Civil Engineering and Geosciences). It already exists for more than 30 years and it is sponsored by ~25 companies, traditionally from the oil & gas industry. The research concentrates on making images of the Earth's subsurface and is carried out by ~15 PhD's and postdocs.
Because of the increasing awareness of the negative impact of fossil fuels on the environment, it was decided to shift the focus to applications in the sustainable geo-energy sector, as well as to attract sponsors from these fields. In January we welcomed Fugro as a new sponsor. Fugro's interest is in near-surface characterization for constructions, e.g., offshore wind turbines. We are glad that Fugro decided to join Delphi and hope that more companies will follow this example in order to strengthen our new mission.
