Irene Fernandez Villegas appointed AE Sustainability Officer
The faculty’s Management Team has appointed Associate Professor Aerospace Structures and Materials Irene Fernandez Villegas in the new role of Sustainability Officer at the faculty. Main goal: make sustainability top of mind in the faculty.
The Sustainability Officer will:
Coordinate the Aerospace GreenTeam:
The AE GreenTeam is a group of 3 to 4 students who promote sustainability in the education, research and operations of the faculty. Created in 2019-2020, it is part of a university-wide initiative to establish decentralised and faculty-specific sustainability teams, inspired by the success of Green-mE at the 3mE Faculty.
The first AE GreenTeam (2019-2020) made a comprehensive inventory of sustainability topics in the degree programme, sustainability-related research, faculty operations and communications. The report including numerous recommendations on how to make the faculty more sustainable can be accessed here AE GreenTeam Inventory Report. The current AE GreenTeam (2020-2021) focuses on:
- sustainability in education (BSc Green Thread, MSc Vitalisation)
- social engagement from students and staff
- and the Mobility Pilot, aimed at reducing the environmental impact of business travel.
Work on alignment with the TU Delft Sustainability Coordinator:
Fernandez Villegas participates in the TU Delft Sustainability Core Team, which goal is achieving a carbon-neutral and circular TU Delft campus by 2030 (Sustainable TU Delft Campus).
Coordinate AE initiatives towards the TU Delft Climate Action plan:
The officer will also actively work on providing a platform for students and staff to engage in multidisciplinary projects with a deep societal impact (TU Delft Climate Action).
