TU Delft researchers Bas van de Wiel and Marie-Claire ten Veldhuis investigate night frosts in orchards. "Night frosts can be very bad news for growers, sometimes forcing the entire family out of their beds in the middle of the night in order to save the plants." Last week kilometers of cable have been rolled out in the orchard of Martijn Vogelaar to track the temperature exactly. The goal of the research is to find the influence of wind machines on the temperature. Next to the cables measuring the air temperature, a drone with an infrared camera flew around to measure the temperature of the leaves and the flower buds.
