Royal HaskoningDHV opts for TU Delft Campus
Royal HaskoningDHV opens a branch for 800 employees in Delft, an international hub in the field of technology, innovation and knowledge development. In 2024, Royal HaskoningDHV will settle in the monumental former faculty building of Mining Engineering on the TU Delft Campus, on the edge of the city centre. The employees then leave the current locations in The Hague and Rotterdam.
The municipality of Delft and TU Delft are pleased with the arrival of the renowned engineering firm. The arrival of the company is of great economic importance for the city. In addition, the company also wants to play a social role in the city and immediate surroundings of the building. This role relates to sustainability, green areas, education and work.
The arrival of Royal HaskoningDHV ensures a further strengthening of the innovation ecosystem around TU Delft. It fits well within the existing campus strategy of TU Delft to redesign the northern part of the campus and to dispose of the former faculty buildings there, including "Mijnbouw". TU Delft already intended to sell the building. The substantive collaboration with the engineering firm is also being expanded - an important condition for companies that want to establish themselves on the TU Delft Campus.
"The TU Delft Campus is one of the leading locations for R&D in Europe. In recent years, various international companies have settled here to work with us on radical innovations. We are proud that the internationally renowned engineering firm Royal HaskoningDHV has chosen to further expand this innovation ecosystem with us. A wonderful new destination for the ‘Mijnbouw’ building, president of the board Tim van der Hagen responds.
The building of the former Mining Engineering faculty in Delft, which dates from 1912, offers Royal HaskoningDHV the opportunity to further realise its ambitions. CEO Erik Oostwegel: “The TU Delft Campus is an inspiring environment for us where we can collaborate on innovations that make the world a little better. Our own experts, supported by the architects from Braaksma & Roos, will play a leading role in modernising and making the building more sustainable while maintaining its monumental character. It will be an open place where colleagues, customers, but also students and local residents will meet. "
Mayor Marja van Bijsterveldt finds Delft and Royal HaskoningDHV ‘a perfect match’: "Royal HaskoningDHV is a leading company that fits in perfectly with Delft's knowledge areas and our city of innovation and technology. The intended arrival to Delft is of great added value for the Delft economy and employment and will give it a lasting boost. I am therefore particularly pleased with this initiative. With the choice for the characteristic and monumental building "Mijnbouw", the old grandeur of Delft is connected to a modern, globally operating company. It is good that the municipality and Royal HaskoningDHV are focusing on careful plan development with a strong eye for the immediate vicinity. ”
Royal HaskoningDHV is in consultation with TU Delft to come to a purchase agreement for of the building. Planning has already been started with regard to design, environmental permit, etc. Employees of Royal HaskoningDHV and residents of the building will be closely involved in this process. At the moment, among other things, the Science Centre Delft is located in the building. A new location is being sought for the Science Centre. In the meantime, the Science Centre will remain open.
