Natalie Kreuk will work on “Inversion of multi-channel acoustic measurements from a complex refractory wall”. Her supervisor is Eric Verschuur.
A refractory wall, as used e.g. in a blast furnace, is deteriorating from inside out due to the material that is melting inside.
This process is monitored using acoustic measurements from the outside of the wall. Due to the relative large wavelength compared to the wall thickness, the inversion is based on a the resonance patter in the frequency domain. Multi-channel measurement allow transformation to a good quality impulse response. In this research the currently developed inversion method is further optimized and extended and will be tested on real measurements.
