In the morning of Wednesday 28 March, about 30 7-8 year old children from the Simon Carmiggelt school in Delft visited VLLAIR and some of the labs of QN in the context of their theme month on science. In VLLAIR, Wilco and Jacob showed the kids an electron microscope where they could zoom in to see the details of the eyes and wings of the fly.
Asking whether it is also possible to look inside the fly, some of the groups were also guided further down the corridor to look at images of brain tissue on the big screen in the multi-beam SEM room. After about an hour, all kids enjoyed an ice cream made in a bath of liquid nitrogen in the QN coffee corner, after which tranquillity returned in our building. Thanks to Allard Katan (QN) for arranging the visit.
