DRI Health grant for Koen van Dongen
Koen van Dongen received a grant of €10K from the Delft Health Initiative for his project on “Real-time proton beam range verification using the iono-acoustic effect: a proof of concept”.The TU Delft Health Initiative objective is to promote research in the field of Healthcare at Delft University of Technology and they granted 13 out of total 26 applications.
The objective of the proposed study is to give a proof of concept that the iono-acoustic wave field can be used for quality assurance of proton radiation therapy. To this end we will build a simple setup to measure the iono-acoustic field in phantoms. The setup will be tested using the facilities of HollandPTC. This study will provide crucial evidence that Bragg peak localization in a clinical setting is indeed feasible.
