Mohawk stage to be featured at OWEE 2018
The Mohawk stage, a fold-out autonomous stage designed by Ate Snijder (AE&T), will be used as stage during the OWEE introduction week 2018. The transformer stage-tent was conceived as a mobile performance venue with its own character and soul.
Ate designed the Mohawk stage during his student years at BK City. His friends from Konvooi Exeptioneel constructed the stage. Their design requirements: the stage had to be spectacular, efficient, autonomous, and compact. The resulting Mohawk stage consists out of a trailer, a supporting frame, and a lightweight superstructure. The superstructure is constructed from aluminium trusses and PVC fabric. The supporting frame and legs for the stage are made from steel, hinged to the trailer. The trailer itself serves as both foundation and means of transportation. When the stage is built up, the trailer folds open, the superstructure is assembled on ground level and lifted up with cables. Once in place, the structure can withstand wind speeds up to 80 km/h (7 bft) before preventive measures are necessary. Watch this movie to see how the impressive stage is constructed by the crew.
The Mohawk stage was first featured at the liberation festival in Groningen, Golden Earring performed on the stage in Leeuwarden, and the stage has been part of several large techno festivals. During the OWEE the stage will located near the University Library.
