Water
In the area of water TU Delft has long standing co-operations with various universities and institutes in China, especially with SKLEC (State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research) at East China Normal University (ECNU) and Hohai University.
SKLEC, ECNU
The contact between TU Delft and SKLEC at ECNU started in the 1990’s. The co-operation between the two universities came into acceleration when the Programme Strategic Scientific Alliances between China and the Netherlands (PSA) was launched in 2004. PSA was set up after an agreement between the two countries signed by ministers, with as objective to develop long standing bi-lateral co-operations in the areas of life sciences, material sciences and environmental sciences.
TU Delft and SKLEC, together with NIOZ (Royal Institute of Sea Research) in the Netherlands and Tsinghua University in China, successfully carried out 2 (of the 5 environmental sciences) projects in the first phase, 1 (of the 2 environmental sciences) project in the second phase, and is now carrying out the only environmental sciences project in the third phase of PSA.
By doing these PSA projects, financed by the Royal Academy of Sciences in the Netherlands and by the Ministry of Sciences and Technology in China, a close co-operation between TU Delft and ECNU has been developed, evidenced by the DUO-degree PhD agreement between the two universities.

Many faculties and staff members of Hohai have been trained in Delft (TU Delft and IHE). TU Delft and Hohai University have been running a joint research center in the area of water since many years, with as activities: staff exchanges, joint courses on coastal dynamics, joint research projects finances by NSFC (Natural Science Foundation of China), co-supervising PhD students, etc.
