Renewable Energy and Circular Economy
Collaborations with Brazil in the field of decarbonised and renewable energy and circular (bio-) economy go back to the late 1990s, initiated by individual professors and a few student exchanges between the Universities of Campinas (UNICAMP) and São Paulo (USP) and individual mutual contributions to courses. This evolved in structural national and state level programs around the FAPESP-BE-Basic (led by TU Delft) and NWO intensive long-term collaborations, worth €20m over multiple years comprised of over 20 Joint Research projects, 15 Dual Degree PhDs, 16 joint courses, the jointly-produced MOOC on Industrial Biotechnology, various influential policy reports (UN-SCOPE), joint conferences (ECO-BIO, BBEST), and business development competitions.
Additional academic collaborators in Brazil include PUC-Rio, UFRJ, SENAI ISI-B&F, and IAC. Industrial partners include Braskem, DSM, Koppert, GranBio, Paques, RoyalHaskoningDHV, Shell, Petrobas, Atvos and Hytron.
