IDE assistant professor Steven Flipse chosen as 2025 TU Delft Education Fellow
We are proud to announce that IDE assistant professor Steven Flipse has been chosen as one of this year's TU Delft Education Fellows. He will receive a two-year grant of €25,000 per year to be used for educational purposes.
The Delft Education Fellowship recognises and appreciates the efforts of lecturers for educational innovation and boosts the impact on educational reform and development. Each year TU Delft appoints a new cohort of Education Fellows, this year they chose seven people.
About the ‘Transdisciplinary Teaching & Learning’ Project
In partnership with the Convergence Programme, Steven's project aims to empower teachers and programme coordinators to develop strategies for integrating transdisciplinary teaching and learning into their courses and curricula. This approach will be especially valuable in the development of new programs emerging from the Convergence Programme.
The goal of this project is driven by a growing expectation that TU Delft students will need to position engineered solutions within a societal landscape that reflects a diverse range of views and values from multiple stakeholders. To succeed in this, students will have to develop competencies that extend beyond their own disciplines – fostering broader societal awareness, the ability to shape responsible actions, and the capacity to integrate multiple perspectives. These competencies form the foundation of what is often defined as ‘transdisciplinarity’.

I am very honored that the TU Delft gives me the opportunity to work on something that I truly believe in: facilitating collaborative learning, for the future scientists, engineers and designers that we teach here. I look forward to working together with our colleagues within and also outside of the faculty to further develop this.

Delft Education Fellowship
The TU Delft Education Fellowship is a two-year grant (€25,000 per year per fellow) to carry out a project on innovation in education, recognising and appreciating the effort and impact of educators. Lecturers, Assistant professors, Associate professors and Full professors can become Education Fellow when they have made a visible, substantial and valuable contribution to the education of TU Delft.
Between 2016 - 2024, up to four TU Delft Education Fellows were appointed each year, resulting in a total of 35 fellows. In 2025, the 4TU Centre for Engineering Education (4TU.CEE) will fund an additional TU Delft Education Fellow. Additionally, a pilot program in collaboration with the Convergence Programme will allow up to two more fellows, pre-selected by the Convergence Programme Directors, to advance Transdisciplinary Education.
