Two new Medical Delta professors at IDE
On 14 November 2023, nine Medical Delta professors and two Medical Delta lecturers were inaugurated during the Medical Delta Conference at the Laurenskerk in Rotterdam.
Professor Jan Carel Diehl (TU Delft, Erasmus MC) and Professor Douwe Atsma (LUMC, TU Delft) were among the nine Medical Delta professors appointed. Within their new roles, IDE Professors JC Diehl and Douwe Atsma will foster and strengthen collaborations between the Medical Delta universities and colleges in the domains of medicine and healthcare.
Strengthening collaborations between affiliated universities and colleges
The appointment of Medical Delta professors and lecturers underscores the collaboration of the affiliated universities and colleges within Medical Delta in the fields of innovation and health. Medical Delta is a partnership between TU Delft, Erasmus MC, Erasmus University, LUMC, and Leiden University, along with four universities of applied sciences in the province of Zuid-Holland (Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, The Hague University of Applied Sciences, Leiden University of Applied Sciences, and Inholland University of Applied Sciences), governments, healthcare organisations, and businesses. Its goal is to realize technological solutions for sustainable healthcare.
Medical Delta professors and lecturers as ambassadors for collaboration
The newly appointed Medical Delta professors and lecturers have a proven track record as connectors between scientific disciplines and between science and practice through their research and work. With their appointment, they not only receive recognition for this, but they will also function as ambassadors for further collaboration in the field of health and technology.
Medical Delta appoints professors to 'Medical Delta professor' annually. With their title, they also receive two or more appointments at the nine affiliated academic institutions and universities and become members of the Scientific Council of the collaboration.
Joining a diverse team at IDE
Professors Jan Carel Diehl and Douwe Atsma will be in good company as Medical Delta professors at IDE. They will be joining the likes of Professors Richard Goossens, Maaike Kleinsmann, Maureen Rutten, and Andrea Evers - all of whom were appointed as Medical Delta Professors in the years prior. Together, they make up a multidiscipinary team with a vast range of knowledge, experience, and expertise. We look forward to seeing how they use their unique perspectives and knowledge of design as Medical Delta professors.
