‘We Like Sharing’ - Platform and Winners
To kick off this year’s Open Education Week and pay tribute to TU Delft’s 180th birthday, We Like Sharing organised a photo competition around the theme ‘IMAGining Energy transition’. The competition was open to staff, students, and alumni alike.
And the best part is that all of the images submitted were added to the We Like Sharing image bank. Photos uploaded to the bank are visible to everyone, publicly searchable, and shared under a Creative Commons license. This means that while each author retains copyright of their photos, they have given additional permissions to others who would like to use them.
‘Connect to the Universe’
As part of the competition, five winning photographs were chosen by a panel of judges. Of them, IDE’s Open, Blended and Online Education Coordinator José Hekkens’ photo, ‘Connect to the Universe’, was selected.
When asked about the photograph, José explained: “My picture 'Connect to the Universe' was taken on the island Terschelling, the day after storm Eunice. The cable sticking out of the beach was really stuck, like it was attached to something, and you could actually plug in something.”

You can still win!
The competition is now closed, but We Like Sharing still needs your help in growing its digital collection. In the past month 45 new photos have been uploaded, but they want to reach 180 to make TUD’s anniversary extra memorable. There will be a mystery prize for the person who submits the 180th photo... So, what are you waiting for?
The We Like Sharing platform
We Like Sharing was created in 2021. It started out as an initiative to encourage TU Delft staff and students to share their photos and give others permission to reuse them under a Creative Commons License. To date, the photo bank houses more than 381 images and has received over 180K views.
