Call for visual papers for the upcoming Design Research Society conference “LEARNxDESIGN 2021”
The Design Sketching international Special Interest Group (SIG), chaired by IDE lecturer Jan Willem Hoftijzer and Brigham Young University Associate Professor Bryan Howell, has broadened this scope. The Design Research Society has in fact asked them to host and review “visual papers” submissions for its upcoming design conference LEARNxDESIGN 2021 taking place 24–26 September 2021, in collaboration with the Shandong University of Art & Design. The conference will include a special track called “Sketching & Drawing Education and Knowledge”, chaired by the Design Sketching SIG.
The Design Sketching SIG is a chapter of the Design Society (DS), and has hosted and organized ‘visual paper’ tracks at DS’ E&PDE conferences in Glasgow 2019 (UK) and Herning 2020 (DK), plus a range of conference workshops at E&PDE conferences since 2018, and Design 2018 in Dubrovnik (HR), and ICED 2019 in Delft. . The SIG is proud and happy with the increasing interest in the visual format of sketching for scientific publications on design. They believe that sketching is a helpful communication format for design, education and research, in a generative and in an explanatory sense. The sketched format helps the thinking process, among other things, and it helps building bridges between the various field and backgrounds.
