Op 20 februari ontving NL-BioImaging (NL-BI) een honorering van 25 miljoen euro, waarvan 15 miljoen euro afkomstig is van de NWO. Deze financiering helpt het consortium om een nationale wetenschappelijke infrastructuur te vormen op het gebied van geavanceerde microscopie, en geeft alle leden toegang tot de beste beeldvormingstechnieken en analyseplatforms.

Ahmed B. Ayoub joined ImPhys per February 1st as postdoctoral researcher. He will work on super-resolution microscopy under supervision of Prof. Sjoerd Stallinga.

Mohammad joined ImPhys as a PhD student in the European doctorate program enabling the next generation of computational physicists and engineers (ENGAGE). He is working under the supervision of Dr. Eric Verschuur.

Freek Pols published a frontline article: Collaborative data collection: shifting focus on meaning making during practical work. In this paper he presents, together with a high school teacher, an approach to practical work in which data collection is minimized freeing time for the more cognitive demanding tasks such as data-analysis and drawing conclusions.

Freek Pols organized the NNV Landelijke practicumdag: An event for and by university physics lab course teachers. It was a great success with 40 people from 12 different institutes from the Netherlands.

Natuurkundige David Maresca heeft een Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Dynamic Imaging-subsidie gekregen om een instrument voor de volgende generatie medische echoscopie te ontwikkelen. De huidige echoscopie, bij de meesten bekend als de eerste foto van een baby, kan onze anatomie en organen zichtbaar maken. Het nieuwe instrument zal veel verder kunnen inzoomen, tot op het niveau van de cellen in ons lichaam.

On January 17th Freek Pols successfully defended his PhD thesis on "Development of a teaching-learning sequence for scientific inquiry through argumentation in secondary physics education".

Aurèle Adam, Assistant Professor at ImPhys and Programme Director of the Applied Physics Master’s, has received this year’s Westerdijk Prize. Timon Idema presented the prize to the physicist for his great commitment to and passion for teaching.
