Research Projects MEP/BEP
Research Projects at Bouwens Lab
Motivation and background
In this lab, we explore chemical approaches to challenges encountered in the transition towards a sustainable society and circular economy. Inspired by how nature solves problems, we use biomimetic concepts applied in (photo)electrochemistry and photocatalysis for the generation of specialty chemicals.
Project description
There are 3 different projects available within my lab.
1. Synthesis and characterization of molecular shuttles for efficient redox reactions. This project involves the synthesis of the molecular components and their characterization with a variety of techniques such as, electrochemistry, photoluminescence and IR.
2. The integration of molecular shuttles onto electrodes to study their reactivity towards redox reactions. This project involves electrochemical characterization, material synthesis and electrode preparation.
3. Development of nanoparticle catalysts facilitating proton-electron transfer. This project involves molecular– and material synthesis, electrochemical characterization and photophysical characterization of the nanoparticles.
