Field Robotics

Field Robotics involves developing robots capable of performing tasks in diverse and challenging environments, Field Robotics focuses on developing robots capable of performing complex tasks in diverse and challenging environments, encompassing a broad spectrum of mechanical design, perception, and control. These robots are designed to navigate unknown terrains with high perceptual awareness of their surroundings and execute reliable, robust control systems that prioritize safety. In addition to navigating dynamic objects and adverse weather conditions, field robots must often handle difficult terrains, changing landscapes, and unpredictable environmental factors, such as dust, debris, and fluctuating temperatures.

Field robotics has applications across many industries. Drones aid in nature conservation, while autonomous vehicles are transforming transportation. In agriculture, robots monitor and harvest crops, and in construction, they handle excavation and inspection. Retail and logistics use robots for inventory and order management, while in healthcare, autonomous robots assist with daily tasks, health monitoring, and elderly care.

At our institute, research efforts are centred on designing robots that can operate autonomously in unstructured environments. This includes the development of physically intelligent robots through innovations in mechanical design, advanced perception, adaptive learning algorithms, and robust control. These advancements allow robots to operate safely, reliably, and efficiently in complex, real-world scenarios.
