The first year is dedicated to compulsory and elective courses (60 EC). In total 47 ECTS of courses are mandatory, of which 16 are common for all MSc Mechanical Engineering Tracks. 13 ECTS are elective and in theory any MSc course at TU Delft may be incorporated into your individual study programme (ISP). The common courses give all students a solid background in mechanical engineering foundations such as physics, heat transfer, dealing with measurements, nonlinearity, and control. The MME track specific courses are covering topics such as tools (design, simulation, and analysis), machinery, equipment, industrial systems, logistics, operations, information, (distributed) control and optimization. In the second year you learn how to carry out structured literature studies in the literature assignment, and how to set up and carry out research and draw conclusions from experiments in the research assignment. These two assignments optimally prepare you for the final graduation project.
Graduation projects
Graduation projects are often carried out in cooperation with an industrial partner or directly linked to one of the ongoing scientific research programmes. Examples of recent graduation topics are ”Logistics of the world’s largest heavy lifting cranes”, “Analyses of Throughput times of passengers and baggage on Schiphol Airport”, “Analysis of the increased maximum load occurrences of bulk cranes”, “Redesign of the lifting arrangement of a pipe transfer crane on board Solitaire”, “Modeling of operational processes at intermodal container terminals”, “Vessel routing for sweeping of marine litter in port areas” and “In-wheel and In-drum motors for crane applications”.More information
