Edible barcode

We are working on a new generation of barcode, an edible, microscale, physical barcode that can be "printed" directly onto food or medicine instead of the packages. Combining multiple advanced techniques (microfluidics, lithography, magnetic trapping), we hope that it will be rather difficult for the average counterfeiter with limited access to technology to acquire the knowledge/equipment to produce this new barcode. On the other hand, by carefully selecting indicator-functional hydrogel systems, this barcode can also provide storage information to consumers.
