The FPP section includes three research groups: Flight Performance and Propulsion (FPP) headed by Prof.dr.ir. L. Veldhuis, Propulsion & Power (PP) headed by Prof. dr. ir. P. Colonna, and Sustainable Aircraft Propulsion (SAP) headed by Prof. dr. ir. A. Gangoli Rao.
The focus of FPP research and education lies in sustainable propulsion, advanced aircraft configuration and novel power concepts to tackle the challenge of climate change and to contribute to the ambitious targets for the environmental impact of aviation, as proposed by the Advisory Committee for Aeronautics Research in Europe (ACARE).
The three groups collaborate to address the challenges of reducing the impact of aviation by promoting a multi-disciplinary research environment, exploring several research areas as novel propulsion systems, flight mechanics, aircraft design and integration, combustion, power and energy conversion systems, turbomachinery and advanced diagnostics. The research themes and competences encompass a diverse range of fundamental and applied disciplines with the goal of creating innovative solutions for the aerospace industry and benefiting society at large.
