All in all, I am very happy I went to TU Delft for my minor as I think I learned so many relevant and useful things about energy science and the transition towards more sustainable energy!
Hi! My name is Eva and I follow the bachelor Global Sustainability Science from Utrecht University. My focus in this bachelor's is on energy science; however, I was looking for a more in-depth and technical focus on sustainable energy. I came across this minor and was allowed to participate, which made me very happy. I was also quite scared, as I had never studied at a technical university. It turned out these scares were unneeded! The minor was challenging but very interesting.
In the first quarter, I followed the courses Introduction to Electrical Power Engineering, Project Integrating Renewable Energy and the elective Sustainable Energy Supply. The first course was the most challenging but gave me a solid base for the rest of the minor. I also enjoyed the project as you get to work with energy types such as solar and hydrogen. In the second quarter, I followed Sustainable Electrical Distribution Networks, Solar Energy, Project Design of Sustainable Energy Supply and the elective Energy Efficiency. For me, this first course was the most challenging, but it was very useful as you discuss a relevant challenge: the increasing difficulty of transmission and distribution with the electrification of society. During the project course, we designed a simple microgrid in a group. It covers the concept of Distributed Energy Resources (solar panels for instance), which appear more and more. With this project, you could really implement the things you had learned so far. Working in this group was fun as all my group members were from different bachelors.
During the minor, I could ask all my questions to the teachers which really helped as I come from a different university. Also, my classmates were friendly to help. My favorite things during the minor were the project in quarter two and analyzing an energy audit during Energy Efficiency. These things really brought knowledge to practice, which I liked. All in all, I am very happy I went to TU Delft for my minor as I think I learned so many relevant and useful things about energy science and the transition towards more sustainable energy!
