Burlesque is best known for its flirtatious and glamourous shows, with elements derived from Victorian times. The term comes from the Italian Burla, which means joke. Burlesque shows use exaggeration and humour to make light of more serious topics. They can also be characterised by an element of sensuality and the art of seduction. In burlesque, we move sensually but we’re never too serious.
In this short course, we explore sensual moves in a light and fun way. We get comfortable with flirting and moving our bodies and learn how to exaggerate our expressions. You'll master classic burlesque techniques like shimmies, bumps, and grinds, adding a playful twist to your dance repertoire. Through guided practice, you'll develop a strong stage presence and learn how to connect with your audience effectively. By the end of the course, you'll feel confident and empowered, ready to dazzle on stage with your newfound skills!
Please note: sometimes burlesque also implies stripping. In this course, it goes no further than taking off a jacket or scarf.
