Burlesque is best known for its flirtatious and glamourous shows, with elements derived from Victorian times. The term comes from the Italian Burla, which means joke. Burlesque shows use exaggeration and humour to make light of more serious topics. They can also be characterised by an element of sensuality and the art of seduction. In burlesque, we move sensually but we’re never too serious. This masterclass is part of our summer programme, VitaminX.

In this three-hour masterclass, we explore sensual moves in a light and fun way. We get comfortable with flirting and moving our bodies and learn how to exaggerate our expressions. You may do the class in heels (as high as you like) or flat shoes. It’s up to you what you wear as an outfit. Keep it simple or dress up like a burlesque queen or king!

Please note: sometimes burlesque also implies stripping. In this workshop, it goes no further than taking off a jacket or scarf!
