Advantages of the Lightboard
-
While using the Lightboard you can focus on writing on the board instead of looking at a screen while doing no physical activity. Through gaze guidance students learn better from a video lecture as you can shift your gaze between the students and board whilst lecturing, as opposed to only looking at the students or board. The front-facing feature of the lightboard setup will allow you to maintain eye contact with the camera and thereby your students when they watch the video. With the Lightboard you will get in the groove of telling your story as well as engaging your students as your story unfolds.
-
A pedagogical advantage of the lightboard is that it boosts learning and engage-
ment through the delivery of short, easily retainable bits of information. This will be evident when you have a board that is filled with notes, equations, drawings, or charts. The Dynamic Drawing principle allows students to process the information which you draw/write on the board rather than referring to an already drawn graphic, limiting the amount of information a they receive. -
The Lightboard enables you to create an environment that fosters curiosity and active participation by weaving together the story of your content with visual demonstrations. Through this approach, the Lightboard makes it easy to explain concepts and/or connections in a step-by-step fashion to help students to hold their attention throughout the entire lecture. Research has shown that the visual connection with the lecturer encourages a better emotional connection between students and lecturers which improves students' retention of information. Using the Lightboard you will not only be right in the middle of your story, but also get into the groove of your story through body language and use of gesturesc guiding your students' attention to where it needs to be.
