Éva Kalmár 

Background 

Éva Kalmár is an Assistant Professor in Communication Design for Innovation at the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, with a special interest in transdisciplinary collaborations. Most of the work that Éva has done focusses on both theoretical and practical knowledge on challenge- or project-based education, and managing and facilitating inter- and transdisciplinary projects. One of the questions that Éva is passionate about is how to design education in such a way as to train  various transdisciplinary skills. In this way, Éva is convinced that TU Delft alumni should leave university with the open-mindset that is required to work effectively together with people with very different backgrounds, fields of expertise and perspectives.   

Towards IDEE 

Given Éva’s interest in transdisciplinary collaboration, she immediately saw a strong link between her own knowledge and expertise and the IDEE theme Future Engineering Skills. Whereas TU Delft engineers can be known for their strong focus on the technological aspect of problems, Éva is convinced that in order to make a difference in today’s complex society, students also need to learn to value, for instance, insights from non-engineering fields, such as the humanities or social sciences. However, this means that students need to experience this themselves during their education. This is why Éva sees the need to work towards an integrated approach at the programme level to train students in adapting this open-mindset.

As part of IDEE 

Ultimately, Éva wants to create a methodology on how to implement this in education and sees IDEE as an opportunity to work towards this.
