Ellen van Andel
I am really curious about the impact of the teacher trainings I develop and organize together with the Impact and Innovation Centre for instance in Ghana, and how the learnings trickle down to the students' skills development and retention abroad.
Background
Ellen van Andel is lecturer and trainer in Sustainable Entrepreneurship at the Delft Centre for Entrepreneurship (DCE), situated at the faculty of Technology, Policy and Management. Ellen has a background in sociology and health economics, and over the years accumulated a wealth of experience in teacher trainings for entrepreneurial education in countries in the Global South. Previously the coordinator of the minor International Entrepreneurship & Development, Ellen now enjoys teaching courses for the minor. One of the things she likes most is to see first-hand the personal and professional transformation that students have undergone as they return from their fieldwork abroad.
Towards IDEE
When Ellen first heard about IDEE, there were really two reasons why she wanted to join. On the one hand, IDEE offers a unique opportunity for Ellen to continue pursuing her interests in education and education research in a diverse and interfaculty team of colleagues. On the other hand, the IDEE theme Retention of Knowledge and Skills connects to an area of interest that Ellen has had for a long time already. Which boils down to the question: how do you know whether your teaching methods and the activities you selected really worked? Through her participation in IDEE, Ellen hopes to learn much about retention and transfer of knowledge and skills, and how these can be effectively measured in education.
Did you know that ...?
- Ellen is very curious about the impact of the teacher trainings she develops and organizes together with the Impact and Innovation Centre for instance in Ghana, and how the learnings trickle down to the students' skills development and retention abroad.
- Together with one of her students, Ellen worked on and presented a paper titled: “Cultivating Global Enterpreneurship: Integrating Cultural Intelligence in Enterpreneurship Education”. The student in question conducted research on one of Ellen’s own courses. You can read more about the paper here, p. 98.
