Many educational initiatives and programmes have wonderful output that nevertheless ends up being unused by the world of education, simply because these innovations failed to take into account the specific needs of educational practice and practitioners. With IDEE, we need to take into account these demands by clearly communicating with all actors and stakeholders involved. This is precisely the kind of challenge that I love to work on.
Background
Caroline Wehrmann is assistant professor Skills in Engineering Education in the Faculty of Applied Sciences. She currently combines two jobs. She advises and guides all BSc and MSc programs within her faculty in the selection and implementation of skills in education. She also supervises students of the MSc Communication Design for Innovation (CDI) in their internships and graduation projects.
Towards IDEE
The common threads throughout Caroline’s career are her passion in education and research for academic and personal skills and development, and a focus on collaboration that aims to solve complex problems. Although Caroline thoroughly enjoyed teaching the fundamentals of science communication and collaboration within the context of complex innovation processes, her main focus has always been on supporting the personal development of her students. This is clear from the enthusiasm and dedication with which Caroline has acted as supervisor for many MSc graduation projects, and from previous research projects.
As part of IDEE
When Caroline first heard about IDEE, she saw a strong connection between her own interests and two IDEE themes: Students taking responsibility for their learning process and Future engineering skills. In the end, she decided to opt for the first. Caroline is very much looking forward to diving deeper into the different perspectives on student responsibility and how to facilitate this more in engineering education. Furthermore, Caroline sees IDEE as a good opportunity to bring much of her expertise in the field of designing complex innovation processes into practice.
Did you know that ...?
- Over the years, Caroline has co-supervised many MSc CDI graduation projects together with supervisors from all faculties, which is why she is especially suited for the role of IDEE faculty ambassador.
