Profile
Profile
I work as an associate professor at the Policy Analysis section of the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management (TPM).
My education background is interdisciplinary. It includes an Engineering Degree in Urban and Industrial Water Resources Management and a minor in East Asia/China studies from TU Dresden, Germany, a PhD from ETH Zürich, Switzerland, and an (executive) MSc in Behavioural Science from LSE, United Kingdom.
All things water being close to my heart, I co-developed and now coordinate the TPM Water and Delta Systems MSc specialization (electives package) for MSc students together with my colleague Tineke Ruijgh. Recently, I've also taken on the role of coordinator of the TPM Water and Delta Network to strengthen our water and delta-related activities.
Work focus
My past work focuses on decision-making in the water sector. In the coming years, I am eager to better understand and increase decision competence in complex systems, which integrates social, technical and environmental aspects.Through my work, I aim to develop and share knowledge, methods and processes for systemic interventions that aim to facilitate better decision making. I endorse systems thinking and operations research as well as insights from the social and behavioral sciences.
The direct engagement of stakeholder into research and the training of current and future policy makers, water managers and other people with leverage over the sustainable development of complex systems in a way that enables them to embrace complexity are key priorities to me.
