“The way we construct our buildings needs to change.” says Arjan van Timmeren professor of Environmental Technology & Design at TU Delft. Over 35% of our global greenhouse gas emissions are attributable to the built environment. A third of that amount is specifically related to the production of abiotic (non-renewable) materials such as concrete, metals and plastics. The associated challenges are not only climate related, but also concern resource scarcity, health and housing provision.

The summer school focuses on how circularity can help inform and develop desirable futures further inquiring on the actions required to scale up and accelerate the transition.

The Circular Built Environment Hub will host the second Summer School on Circularity in the Built Environment from 5 to 7 July 2023.

The Circular Built Environment Hub of the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment organises a series of public debates. Every two months there will be a public debate on a specific topic.

The nominated and winning projects of the Circularity in the Built Environment Graduation Award 2022-2023 will be on show in the corridor around the Oostserre from 4 to 26 October.

On 18 September, Visiting Professor Joanna Williams will give the public lecture 'Circular cities: a revolution in sustainable urban systems' at the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment.

On 3 October, the nominated and winning projects of the Circularity in the Built Environment Graduation Award 2022-2023 will be announced.
