Switching to the new AES master programme

All students in the current CE or AES programme are advised to finish their program with the extra exam opportunities given and if necessary by making use of the transitional rules and equivalent parts of the new programmes. A switch to the new programme is likely to result in a loss in obtained ECTS within the exam programme.

This is due to the fact that it will be very difficult to get exemptions for compulsory modules in the new programme based on already obtained results of the old programme. The new CE and AES master programmes consist of modules in stead of courses. This modular set-up differs on many fronts from the course structure of the old programmes. A combination of passed courses will therefore usually not lead to an exemption for a module. In some cases it will be possible to get exemptions for free elective space with courses already obtained in the old CE or AES programme, if there is no overlap in content and learning objectives with the compulsory modules of the new programme. This needs to be assessed individually by the track coordinators of the new programme.

Students who are considering switching to the new programme should always discuss this with an academic counsellor. They can provide more information about the possible consequences of switching to the new programme. For students who have obtained a small amount of ECTS (less than 30 ECTS), switching to the new programme could be a suitable solution in some cases.The choice to switch to the master programme is ultimately up to the student themself. The student must, however, meet the admission requirements of the new programme.
