Following equivalent parts from new programmes to finish your MSc programme
These equivalencies can only be used when there are no more exam opportunities for the compulsory course of the old programme. This means for the designated first-year courses from academic year 2023-2024 and for the designated second-year courses from academic year 2024-2025. Please make sure to make use of these final exam opportunities to complete your master programme as much as possible.
When a student of the old Civil Engineering or Applied Earth Sciences programme has not successfully completed a compulsory course within their exam programme and no more examination opportunities are offered for this course, for the majority of the compulsory courses there will be an equivalent (part of a) module in the new programme. This equivalency can be followed as a substitute so that students can still finish their programme and they do not have a gap within their exam programme. We want to emphasize that these equivalent parts of modules are only available as of academic year 23/24 when no more exam opportunities are offered for the compulsory courses of the first year of the old programmes. More information on the final exam opportunities and the classification in first and second year course can be found on this page.
The transitional rules and the table with the equivalent course codes for the available equivalent parts of modules is published in the Annex of the Teaching and Examination Regulations (TER) of the academic year 2022/2023, for 1st year courses, and in the Annex of the Teaching and Examination Regulations (TER) of the academic year 2023/2024 for 2nd year courses (to be published in August 2023). The TER of both years and accompanying annexes can be found on this page. Via the yellow button below you can also download an overview of courses of the previous MSc programmes of Civil Engineering and Applied Earth Sciences for which an equivalency is offered. Filter the file and search for the course you have not finished yet and it will show if an equivalency is available and what the course code of this equivalency is. If your course is not shown, there most likely is no equivalency available. Please be aware that this file is for support purposes. No rights can be derived from it. Contact an academic counsellor or your track coordinator in case no equivalency is available and you want to discuss what options there are voor you.
How to participate in an equivalent part of the new programme?
As soon as you know the course code for your equivalency you can view the content of the course in the study guide of academic year 2023-2024 which will be published around August 2023. If you want to participate in an equivalency please make sure to adjust your exam programme in MyStudyPlanning (MSP) and have this approved by your track coordinator by using the correct link for your cohort on this website. A factsheet with instructions on how to adjust your exam programme in MSP can be found via the green button at the bottom of this page. If you are a student of cohort 19-20 or earlier, please make use of the form ‘Master Examination programme’ which can be found via this website as well.
You can see when the lectures are scheduled for this equivalency by searching for and viewing the timetable of the course code of the equivalency in MyTimeTable prior to the educational quarter it is offered. Please note that your equivalency is a part of a larger module which is followed by students of cohort 22-23. This means that you will also see this module code in MyTimeTable next to the code of your equivalency, along with the name of the module.
A Brightspace page for the equivalency is also created where the lecturer will publish additional information regarding the content of the course. Because you will be sharing classes and an exam with students in the new programme, it is advised to make sure that your lecturer is aware of the fact that you are following an equivalency to make sure that he or she uploads your grade using the correct course code.
In case you have questions about the transitional rules and the offered equivalencies, please contact an academic counsellor and/or your track coordinator to discuss the possibilities and possible consequences.
