Binding recommendation (BSA)

All Bachelor programmes at TU Delft are subject to a binding recommendation on the continuation of studies (BSA). You must obtain at least 75% of your credits in the first academic year in order to continue your degree programme, this is 45 ECTS. If you achieve less than 45 ECTS in your first academic year, your registration for the programme will be terminated and you will not be allowed to register for the same programme for four years.

You find more information refer to Article 27 of the Teaching & Examination Regulations (TER) for the specific regulations.

Postponement in case of extenuating circumstances

If you are unable to meet the progress requirements due to extenuating circumstances, for example, illness or unexpected family or personal circumstances, it might be possible to obtain a postponement of the BSA.

Please visit the Academic Counsellors as soon as possible when extenuating circumstances occur to discuss your situation in order to limit the impact on your studies, to discuss your study plans and to start preparing your request timely. If you do not report the circumstances in a timely fashion, this may affect the outcome of your request.

See BSA Postponement for all information on the application procedure, such as the grounds and extenuating circumstances for which postponement can be requested and the deadlines and timeline.

See Hearing and Appeal for all information on the application procedure for the BSA hearing.

For more information on the SGZ Student Doctors (and deadlines), please visit: Certificate for study delay due to illness - SGZ Studentengezondheidszorg

Part of the postponement request is the ‘declaration from your academic counsellor’:

This is the last item of your file to collect and can only be drafted after your personal statement and the supportive statements (if applicable) have been shared with your academic counsellor by e-mail to academiccounsellor-ae@tudelft.nl.

Please note that the academic counsellors will also need at least 5 working days to complete their statement. As soon as their statement is ready, they will send it back to you by e-mail to complete your request.

How will my BSA postponement application be handled?

The BSA committee will meet and consider your case and aims to send you the decision by e-mail within 5 working days after the meeting has taken place. For more information on the deadlines and timeline at AE, please see the announcements on Brightspace -> Organization: Aerospace Engineering Students.
