Profile
Vincent Baptist is Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at Delft University of Technology. He is part of the History of Architecture and Urban Planning Group, where his research focuses on health and liveability in historical urban environments and data-driven methods. He is involved in the Healthy Cities research theme of the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment. He has published in a variety of journals, including Journal of Urban History, Urban Planning, Archnet-IJAR, LA+ and Mediapolis.
Vincent teaches in the BSc and MSc Architecture programmes, particularly in courses on research design and methods, city observation and academic skills. He is keen on guiding students in adopting methodologies for urban, historical and architectural research that are digitally oriented, participatory, creatively mixed or involve historical maps and audiovisual source material. Vincent is also open to supervise PhD projects on topics related to histories of health and well-being in cities, digital humanities approaches to urban and architectural research, geospatial analysis and historical mapping, urban heritage and infrastructural developments, media (re)presentations of cities and architecture.
Vincent has a PhD in urban history from Erasmus University Rotterdam and a background in digital humanities and media studies. He is a member of the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus research center PortCityFutures and its Mixed Methods and Design Strategies theme. He has conducted research on the port city of Rotterdam, urban cultural transformations during its modern history, as well as contemporary redevelopment processes in its former port districts. Vincent has also worked in the CREATE digital humanities lab at University of Amsterdam, as part of the CLARIAH Amsterdam Time Machine project, and has been a CLARIAH Research Fellow.
